WIP Wednesday: More Dragons!

Here are the two dragons that I have been working on this week. The one to the left is the same from last week. I finally got around to sewing on all the parts of the head. I will try to get him finished up tomorrow and show him off Friday. This is the first dragon that I am adding frills and scales to and I really like it.

The one to the right I just started this past weekend. I used the new yarn I bought Saturday Berroco Vintage. I have to say I think it is probably my favorite of all the dragons I have made so far. I switched my size H hook to size G and it looks so much better. I think it will be my first item for sale on my etsy shop. I won't give to many details for now but I am working on opening an etsy stop where I will sell these cuties and other things also. I will write up a post all about it later on so if anyone is interested know that its coming soon. Going back to taking about the dragon, I made it similar to my pink dragon I started last week except for this will have scales. These two will also be for the Freshstitches CAL.

Anyone interested in joining look for the Freshstiches group on ravelry. Also if you are a fan of Freshstiches Patterns and haven't liked her Facebook page you should do it soon because once she gets 4,000 likes she's having a sale. How does 40% off all patterns sound?

Remember to come back for FO Friday to see these two cuties and the pink dragon from last week all finished!

New Yarn!

Yesterday I did a little shopping and got a couple of things I am really excited about. First up is the yarn I bought. I was at my LYS and decided to try some new yarn. I got Berroco Vintage which is a blend of 50% acrylic, 40% wool and 10% nylon. Its very soft and I started crocheting with it and it works up really well. I did notice that while the lady at the store was winding them into balls she had some trouble with two of them. She actually ended up getting a different green one because there was an issue with the first one.

While working on my pink dragon last week with Cascade 220 superwash I noticed that using a size H hook was probably not the best idea because the holes were a little too noticeable and I didn't want stuffing coming out. So I went to one of the craft stores here in town (there are 5 of them) and bought a size G. I love the color of the hook too! I can never just get one thing and while looking at the books I found this one Around the Corner Crocheted Borders by Edie Eckman. It has 150 borders and most of them are easy enough that I thought it would be perfect for adding borders to my baby blankets. Meaning I will probably end up doing another baby blanket soon!

The last thing is that I finally placed an order on Knitpicks! I decided that it was time and got a couple of things. I got the ball winder because you can't really beat the price $19.99. I read mixed reviews about it but I decided to give it a shot. I also got the scale. My brother usually lets me use his scale but he is moving out next week and I really need to get one. Again the price was what convinced me to get it. I got some locking stitch markers and got some yarn to try out. I got Comfy in fingering and sport weight, Shine in sport weight and Cotlin in dk weight. I am really excited and can't weight for it to get here.

FO Friday: Crocheted Softies Group Photo!

Here it is the group photo of all 18 animals from Crocheted Softies!!
(Its actually 19 because I made a microbe and macrobe)

I had a hard time trying to place them where they could all be seen but I think this is the best one of all the pictures I took. I have to say I am a little sad that I finished them all because I kinda wanted to keep going but I guess its a good thing that there are plenty more Freshstitches patterns for me to make!
In this book Stacey separated the animals into pairs depending on where they can be found. So I thought it was a good idea to do the same and take a picture of each pair.

Africa

Asia

Australia & Oceania

Europe

North & South Poles

North America

South America

The Oceans

Outer Space

Which is your favorite pair? I honestly love all of them but I think the pairs I like the most are Africa and South America. Well I hope you like them and if you want to see more pics you can check out the project pages on Ravelry.

WIP Wednesday: Dragons!

This weekend I started two dragons for the Freshstitches CAL. For the first one I am using one of the combinations I had thought about and had ya'll vote for. It was actually in 4th place but I decided to make one with it. Especially since I had already visualized what I wanted it to look like. This one is different from the first two dragons I made. I decided to add frills and the standard tail. I think I want to add horns but am undecided on whether to use the short or long ones.

The second one is made using the Cascade 220 Superwash I bought on Saturday. I love this yarn! Its so different from any other yarn I have used before. I can see why so many people like using it. This one is more similar to the first two I made except for it also has the standard tail instead of the arrow tail. I think I am going to use long horns for it.

I added these two for those interested in seeing the first two dragons I made just in case ya'll haven't seen them before.

Remember this Friday I am showing the group picture of all 18 animals I made from the book Crocheted Softies! You don't want to miss it they are super cute!

CASCADE!!

So I have been living in this same town my whole life and I never knew there was a yarn shop! The funny thing is that I have passed it a million times and always noticed the store beside it which sells paintings but never the yarn store. So today I decided to stop by especially since I saw there was a sale and bought some yarn. I'm so excited about my new yarn! I got two Cascade 220 Superwash which is 100% Superwash wool  in Medium Rose and Banana Cream. I am going to make an amigurumi dragon for the Freshstitches CAL. I also got Cascade Heritage Sock Yarn in Purple Hyacinth that's 75% Merino Superwash and 25% Nylon and as soon as I find a pattern and buy some needles small enough I am going to attempt to make my first pair of socks! I only spent $25 on these since the 220 Superwash was 40% off. I save about 8 dollars! I would have gotten more but since this is my first time using yarn that's not acrylic or cotton I really wanted to test it out first! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I know I am! :)

FO Friday: Completed Goal!!

GOAL: Make all the animals from Crocheted Softies- COMPLETE
I'm so excited! I finally finished all the animals from Crocheted Softies! I've been working on them for hours but they are finished! For now I am showing ya'll the last few by themselves but you won't want to miss next week's FO Friday because I will be taking a group picture of all 18 of them together!!
Orangutan
Okay so the orangutan doesn't actually look like an orangutan but at least it looks like a monkey right?
Macrobe
I love this macrobe! It's huge compared to the ones I made before. I used Hobby Lobby I love this yarn and its definitely bulkier than Caron Simply Soft which I normally use. I think I am getting better at the loop stitch too!
Snake
I'm so glad I finally finished the snake! It took me forever to do but I like it! I took lots more pics and you can check them out on the project page by clicking on the link above.
Moose
So I wasn't too sure about this moose but I think I am liking it more now. I had originally planned for the legs to be black and brown but then I changed my mind because the brown is actually much darker than it looks in the picture.

Remember to come back next Friday for the group picture!
Now that I finished all these animals I am going to finish up the squirrel and start on the dragons for the CAL.

WIP Wednesday!

This past week I have been trying to finish up the animals from Crocheted Softies. I finished the orangutan last week but I still need to sew him up. He will be done for FO Friday for sure! I don't really think it looks like an orangutan but I  like the color combination.

This weekend I got a lot done on my snake! I finished 154 rows and only have 45 more to do for the body before starting on the head. I have been thinking on what color I should do it pink or green and was thinking green but I might decided to add some pink into it. I am hoping to finish this one up for Friday too.

The last animal I need to finish is the moose and only have this much done, one antler and the head. I will probably finish him for Friday at least I would like to. My plan is to work on him today and get all the parts crocheted. Hopefully I can sew them both and have them ready for Friday. That would leave all day Thursday to work on the snake and finish him up.

On Monday Stacey released the pattern Murray the Squirrel I had pre-ordered a couple weeks ago. I obviously couldn't wait and started him that same day. I finished all the parts and am ready to start the body. Since the head and body are one piece its better to crochet all the other pieces first because you will need to sew them on before the hole is too small to fit your hand. I love the tail. I have only worked on the loop stitch a little but I really like it and I think I am getting better at it. I don't think this one will be done this Friday but you never know :)

Lastly I have been thinking of possible color combinations for my dragon for Stacey's Dragon CAL starting this Thursday, August 16th. I will probably not get a chance to start on mine until this weekend or possibly next week but that's actually a good thing because I am really undecided on colors. Here are the possible color combinations I was thinking of and was hoping ya'll would help me out by voting. They are numbered and you can vote by commenting below preferably voting for your top 3 favorites! Thanks!

Color Combinations!

Stacey Trock is doing a Dragon CAL using her pattern Choosing your own dragon adventure and it starts August 16th. I am super excited about it and decided to start looking for possible colors for my dragon today. I have plenty of colors to choose from in Caron Simply Soft Yarn. Here are some combinations I came up with. The hard part is choosing which one to do so I need some help! I have numbered each one so if you could please leave a comment below picking at least your top 3 favorites. Thanks!
